Masterclass
This Masterclass, lead by Jam Experiment band members, will be based around improvisation in small bands, developing techniques, identifying rehearsal strategies for individuals and their bands, and above all building self-confidence in playing solo within the small band format. Masterclass participants, will be very familiar with their instrument, and will have some experience of playing in a band. They should bring their own instrument - all instruments welcome. All attending musicians can have a play - Jam Experiment will play a tune or two of their own, probably from their debut album!
Age is no barrier to taking part, although the expectation is that young musicians will fill at least half of the 10 available places. There will be plenty of space for observers for a reduced ticket fee. Jam Experiment will inspire musicians to start making, or continue developing, improvisation as a stronger part of their playing game! Ribble Valley Jazz will create opportunities for regular participation in local Improvisation Workshops after this Masterclass.
The Jam Experiment are a quintet from Manchester who were the winners of 2014's Jazz North Introduces initiative to promote a young band form the north of England. Influenced by the likes of Christian McBride, Gwilym Simcock, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny they aim to play exciting arrangements by band members and other composers.
Jam Experiment are the first ever Band-in-Residence at our 8th Annual Festival. They are a very experienced group of young, talented musicians who play together regularly at club venues and festivals around the UK, to excellent reviews. As our Band-in-Residence, Jam Experiment are very busy during the festival! Check through the festival brochure to discover when & where they are involved. They will be playing in gigs, jazz jams, a presentation, and this masterclass!
If you want to listen to their music beforehand, you can order their new debut album - ‘Jam Experiment’ from their web site, http://www.jamexperiment.com - Click on ‘Album’ to order. You will recognise the album cover - good value at £10
